Philosphical Bearings

In the world of teaching photography, I have frequently encountered the perception that technical skills can be acquired anywhere but getting someone to delve within themselves and create good work is the more important thing to teach.

Personally, I see the two issues differently. I have never worried that any given human being lacked specific insights and truths such as to be valuable to the rest of us if the insight or truth could be expressed. I have never doubted that people delve inside when they photograph and that the more they photograph the more true will be the delving. The thing I have always doubted was that someone would be able to locate sufficient information to make the photograph correlate to the insight of the photographer. Hence, these pages!
