Hints and tips to help expedite results

It is easiest to start by testing for N-1 development and film speed than it is to start by testing for Normal development and film speed. After N-1, test for Normal, then N+1, then N+2.

Use one-shot developers. Some developers aren't formally designated asa 1-shot developers but work well that way.

Use fresh chemicals

Always fix and wash the film consistently.

Pick one film and developer combo, stick with it until you have acheived a complete understanding of the way it reacts to light and development. Only then move on to another film.

Stick with one 'authority'. Ansel Adams is the definitive source of information and always a safe bet. Even if you do not use Adams as your authority, make sure that you avoid sources of bad information.

Think of film tests as relaxing.
